Indochinite Tektites are the best known of the Tektites. Classic tear drop and cigar shaped specimens are found in rice paddies through out Thailand, Laos and Vietnam area.
Tektites are formed when a huge meteorite collides into the earth with such force that melted rock and meteorite are thrown at high speed into the upper atmosphere. Here they cool and harden, preserving their splash melted shape.
Tektites are sometimes found in strew fields thousands of miles across.Because they are largely glass, possible sources of misstaken identity include glassy volcanic rocks e.g. obsidian, slags and other industrial by-products, and waterworn bottle glass recovered on beaches.
China is currently the largest producer of tektites that come from Hunan, China. All prices are in Swedish currency.
